Save the Senior Bus: Special McHenry Township Meeting
3703 N Richmond Rd
Mark your calendars, Aug. 5 special township meeting where you get to tell the board what you want them to do!
There will be two topics of this meeting:
1. Request that the board revisit their decision on the township bus service
2. Put a referendum on the 2020 ballot (the next election where we can have a referendum) requiring the Township to have a bus program.
This is the ONE time where residents will be granted voting authority!!
Consideration of an advisory referendum about the bus program that could appear on the March 17, 2020, primary ballot will be voted on at the meeting.
The question to be voted on during the annual township meeting will read, “Shall the McHenry Township fund, operate and manage a McHenry Township senior and disabled transportation program for all McHenry Township senior and disabled residents?”
As an advisory referendum, the township board will not be bound to reverse their decision if a majority of voters are in favor of it. However, if voters were in favor of the referendum, Adams said he would hope that the will of the people may change some board members’ minds on eliminating the bus program.
